Default 2006 Corvette click noise

hope this is in the right spot. I’m looking at purchasing a 2006 Corvette. 45000 miles. Nice car overall LT3, two top package, only option I can see it’s missing is navigation. Drives great, but when I release the clutch I hear a sorta loud click noice. Not a low clunk like a u joint. Higher pitched. Doesn’t do it every time you release the clutch though. Sounds like it’s by the rear wheel on the drivers side, but not for sure. Any known issues with the 6 speed trans or axle shafts? I did search for a while but I’m not seeing anything. Any help is appreciated.

Possibly a loose axle nut. Somewhat common and simple to check and fix. Pull the center cap off the wheel and put a socket on it.

I’ll give that a shot. What would be the torque spec for that?

I had something similar to this noise you describe on my 2007, though it had a lot more miles. Maybe about 70,000. It would describe mine more as a loud clunk. It always happened after I washed the car, then it would go away after a day. I found out that when I sprayed the rear wheel with water over the center hub it would make that noise. My mechanic at the dealer then took out the center hub of the wheel (i can't remember if he took the wheel off, I don't think he did) there is a rod inside the axle that he pushed in and since then that noise went away. I also don't spray a jet of water into the center of the whee when I'm washing it. I just spray the outer rim.

what size is the socket for the rear axle nut? Bigger than anything I have in the tool box. They look to be tight though. Any other suggestions?

I have a 2007 base. I had a click noise when I backed up in the morning or if the car sat. If was the axel nut. Go to the dealership, it's not too outrageous. Get two. There's a bunch of info on this site on exactly how to fix. I used the old nut to lock the new one down and it worked great.

140 ft. Lbs and it's either a 33 mm socket or 34 mm. I had the same issue on my 08 Z06. Mine used a 34 mm socket.
