Was driving on mountain roads today (some amazing and recently resurfaced) in the rain ... and on the way back my fuel gauge went to zero. The DIC said Check Fuel System. So this will be the first problem that I will troubleshoot and fix myself. Obviously, there is a great likelihood that Water got into an electrical connector. And whaddaya know ... popped the hood, looked around and sure enough, behind the Battery one of the electrical connectors has water visible on top where wires go into it:
You can actually see the water in this photo, on both sides of the green & white wire. So I'll pull the battery, disconnect that connector and others there with it, may be use a vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle. Then make sure I clean the contacts with a brush --toothbrush if there is no obvious corrosion, fine wire brush if there is corrosion-- and then apply Dielectric grease to the contacts before reassembling.
This is motivating me to buy one of these Clone Tech 2 devices. This one is by far the lowest price, quite a number sold ... and they seem to have had several of their own Chinese employees write up good reviews of it.
Yup, that did it. Battery out, quick connector disassembly, couldn't see water inside the connector but vacuumed inside anyway. Applied Di-e grease, and reassembled. Then of course I had to go for a quick drive ... just to check it out ...
