Hope I’m in right category. Purchased 06 base model in 2007 with M6 and have driven it about 2000 miles. Now has 33,000 miles. Original owner/friend installed bolt-ons and light cam and I installed Procharger. With full tune - dyno @ 657 RWHP now. Out for drive week ago and shifter would not go into reverse just al of a sudden. Trailered it to Chevy dealership who has excellent Corvette transmission person with much tenure. I am not astute at transmissions at all, but I gleaned that (probably off on names of a parts) synchro cone for reverse and a large washer next to it failed incidentally which went on to damage other parts inside tranny. He is highly thought of by local Corvette club. Showed me parts and damage. Total estimate for teardown, parts, rebuild and reinstall is $5050. Honestly don’t have lots of money like many but want to do it “right“ as best as possible. Quick look online - rebuilt tranny’s from $2500-$6000 for heavier duty ones. Parts that would be used to rebuild my tranny are OEM GM. Don’t plan on racing the car or tracking. Do like to get on it once in a while to get those endorphins going. Looked up some prices on some of the parts to be used in my tranny and much cheaper than the dealership prices. Question is to have dealership rebuild and work with me on maybe less costly parts or go with rebuild? Trustworthy places to call for rebuilt? Lots of them out there. Don’t know if I have the money to spend $5000 on a heavy duty tranny plus all of the labor on top of at $100/hour. Have about $1200 so far on diagnosis. Excellent performance shop who did the Procharger and tuning indicated stock transmission would handle power as long as it was not abused (drag raced or tracked repeatedly hard).
