I recently realized my base A6 car has 3.15 gears. I am wanting to switch to 3.42s. Which is the best/easiest/cheapest way to get there? I've seen the RPM diffs for around $3000, obviously have better stuff in them. Is switching just the gear out in a stock diff a real challenge? Is swapping in a whole different diff easier? Can I use a used diff out of another Vettte, like a manual car or ZO6?
IIRC a Z06 rear assembly is a bolt in. I got in on the last half of a friend's install, so missed some of the details. Christopher (theSubfloor) has done several. He's mostly on the C7 Z06 forum now, but does slip down here on occasion.

My C7 Z06 is gone so I only hang out here in the C6 section now.
Yes, a Z06 differential is a direct replacement and is a LOT cheaper than any of your aftermarket options.

Under three hours if I hurry.
Regular hand tools, three jackstands and hockey pucks, floor jack and transmission jack. I've got a complete How To guide I can email you if you're looking to do the job yourself.
