I sure like the action from this guys Texas Speed stage 3 (newer version 231/246) cam but his HP gain was only around 55hp....does that seem right? Skip to 2:30 min. mark.

I want to get something ordered asap for the '10 GS, man. trans. I just bought. Not all that concerned about high HP numbers necessarily, I like torque pull for a quick hit up through 4th gear and don't really go any faster than probably like around 120mph. (jus like getting there fast)

I would greatly appreciate suggestions for my cam given the above parameters.....I'm also doing long tubes and an airraid or snakecharmer at the same time.

Thank you for the help guys....I appreciate it!

I have the same cam but it went in and was tuned along with the exhaust and intake and made 480ish wheel on 91. Subjectively, the cam is great. Chops pretty hard at idle (shakes the car), decent street manners, and when it starts to light around 3500 rpm it doesn't stop pulling. it took me a while to adjust to the new shift point and not hit the rev limiter. I daily drive mine until the snow flies and it suits me just fine.

Thank you Mr. nasty......I appreciate your input. Do you know of another cam that comes in a bit earlier....I can appreciate the higher RPM of this TS stage 3 cam but I really need more grunt down a lil lower. I'm new to the cam game and need to research what the various lift and lsa numbers represent. But if there is a proven performer already known out there that hits good in the lower torque zone that would help steer me to the good.

Id imagine the stage 1 or stage 2 offerings from texas speed would proportionately bring the rev band lower. you could pull up their charts from their testing and compare across the different cams. spinmonster cams seem to be popular amongst the members here, so that could be a viable option for you.

You really aren't going to get a whole lot of power increase below 3500 rpm with just about any cam. Just ain't happnin'. If you want extra power down there, save your cabbage until you can afford a P/D blower. You'll have a nice power increase starting at just above idle. Really big power increase above 2500 rpm. Naturally aspirated, you'd need BIG time stroker type cubic inches to even come close to what a P/D blower can deliver..

Reply: He gained over 100 horsepower with just a cai, headers/xpipe, cam & tune. That’s really good especially in a 3200 pound car

Unless you are just looking for a choppy idle sound, you are always better off with slightly undercamming than overcamming. I'm going with a BTR stage 2 for mine along with headers and a SS3600 converter from Yank.

CAM MOTION LS3 Stage 3 227/237 is the sweet spot for DD Manners & Performance imo.
The Chop/Lope will come from a really good tune AND.... a low ~650 RPM idle.
You will give up very little top end but gain Yuuuge in mid-range and low speed,
stop & go manners in a DD if that is importrant to you.
My .02
Good Luck
