I want some more power and I'm looking for a new upgrade. Is the Fast 102 worth the price for the set up I currently have, basically am I going to gain much by adding it to my arsenal of mods? I'm not trying to go crazy on mods, just a little something I can feel in the seat. I've also thrown around the idea of a cam swap, I just haven't fully committed myself to it yet. If anyone has any mod ideas that aren't through the roof price-wise throw them my way. I'm looking to stick around $1500, I'll be doing all labor myself.
The OEM LS2 intake manifold is the first big choking point. The headers being the second. The OEM air intake being the first small bottle neck. A Fast 102 will do wonders with an updated tune to go with it.
An LS2 car with just a FAST 102 Dynoed the same as my LS2 car with only a cam upgrade and no other major mods (stock airbox, stock exhaust, K&N drop in filters). It's worth the money and a much easier install than a cam swap. I had my tuner install my cam but put my FAST on in my driveway in about 30 minutes. With both installed you're about even with a stock Z06, possibly even a little quicker if the tune and cam are aggressive enough.
Would I see significant power gain by adding just the 102 without a cam upgrade(20-25hp)? I just don't want it to be an all or nothing type of modification and end up spending money on 2 tunes. With the LT, CAI, 102 and tune I should be looking at ~400rwhp. Does that sound right?
The 102 will add to peak HP, although I'm not sure if you'll get 20 HP on a stock cammed car (maybe others know). However, the FAST 102 will also provide nice torque gains through the midrange so the benefits go well beyond high rpm HP gains. Should you do a cam later, you'll want this mod. Since it fits your budget, I'd go for it.
Not sure what your long term plans are, but adding the FAST and 4.10 gears would make the car quick around town and very docile to drive when you're not jumping on it. bolt-ons plus gears is a popular combo for daily drivers and those not going to the track on a regular basis.
You will see power across the entire rpm range. I highly recommend having your fast 102 ported as well. If I remember correctly, there is a 7rwhp gain over a non ported one.
