Recently purchased an ‘05, under hard acceleration like getting up to highway quickly the car surges. Good acceleration then dies then accelerates then dies, thoughts?
Understood, so in very technical terms it feels like a bucking bronco, head feels like a bobble head doll.
On a more serious note....what are the chances it would throw an error code?
Taking the car in for a brake fluid change in the morning was hoping to narrow down the possibilities and save some labor dollars for them hunting around.
I would definitely hook up a scan tool if you have one...and chances are fairly good that it will throw a DTC...if not like I said you would have to do diagnostic testing...do you have a scan tool ??...you can try unplugging the MAF sensor and see if you still have the surging...the unplugged MAF will run off the signals from the MAP sensor...it will throw a code but at least you know it's from the MAF being unplugged. Hope you don't snap your neck...LOL !!!...with a scan tool you can at least you can look at fuel trims to see what they look like...look at your air filter and see if it's clogged too...don't know if it's OEM or aftermarket CAI.
So I took apart the MAF sensor, it looked good, cleaned it but before I reassembled it I looked at the throttle body. It was clean BUT the rubber boot between the air flow and throttle body had water in it. Dried it out and back tracked to the air cleaners. Both of them were wet half way up (photo), found water in that compartment as well as the bridge between both filter. Got caught in some rain last week.
See photos, are these the OEM air cleaner housing? They are wide open on both ends.

Air Filter is OEM...doesn't look like the housing is aftermarket. That might have been your problem right there with the air filters water logged. I'd replace the filter...OEM has 2 filters I believe.. I have a C5

Yep stock air filters and housings.
Replace the air filters with either the Napa golds, or Wix white filters since they are the same two filters.
The white Wix/Napa gold filters flow a touch better than the OEM filter, but better is since they are white, you can see when its time to change them when they get dirty instead.
After looking through a number of classified ads for C6’s I think I know why the filters may be getting wet, we’re missing a shroud over the air filters compartment, see photo. Thoughts?? We

Also, quick photo down at the area below where the filter housing sits, since someone may have cut the air shroud for an after market air filter system like a Varram, and this is allow for a lot of water to come up as well. Hence when you look down below the filter assembly the plastic should be solid with no holes cut in it.
So to put a period on this thread, the cause of the surging was water.....water in each of the air filter compartments, the area in between the air filter compartments and the rubber accordion boot after the mass air flow sensor and throttle body. Once the water was absorbed and the air cleaners dried out the car pulls without hesitation up past 100mph.
Guessing the missing housing using noted above allows the rain water to ingress into the air filters and beyond. The other housing noted above was not tampered with but did find several openings that look like something should be attached to it, thinking the missing housing. The housing and new filters are on order, s/b here by Monday.
Thanks to to all that offered suggestions which lead to the cause and solution.
