I've tried to search for differences between '05 and '06, but I cannot find any info on the differences on the ECM's. A friend of mine with C6 says stay away from the '05 because of a very slow ECM compared to '06 and up. That is of course if you plan to do some tuning.
Any truth to this? I'm considering a Z51 C6 targa to have as a tool for spirited drives along the backroads and the occasional trackday. The possibility that the modification troll will come and itch my head again is very likely, but it will not go further than a cam and headers I think. Will I be much worse off in a '05 than '06?
Yes the ECU is different, same with a weak as glass rear end. The cost difference for an 06 is WELL worth it. Then again the 05 ecu can be used fine, but doesn't have the support/features/options of the 06+
My opinion... depends on what you're going to do with it. Sticky tires and some hard launches and a little wheel hop and it's very possible to still destroy it. People have done it with totally stock cars
On the other hand.. I'm running like 13psi of boost, original 2005 rear end, and it's survived. I also don't do hard launches ever and usually only do 2nd/3rd gear pulls, so I'm assuming that is why
2006 is the better option though, no doubt about that.
