Periodically I have difficulty getting out of Park into Reverse. Brake is depressed but is jammed. Finally comes out after “messing around” with either shifter or steering wheel. Doesn’t seem rational but finally unlocks. Very intermittent, but really frustrating. So far only happened in garage.
Micro switch problems, but in the mean time, push the shifter all the way forward so the micro switch makes continuity contact, then pull the shifter back to get it out of reverse.
As for the switch, some times is just a mater of bending the arm more outwards, while other times is the internal contacts that need to be cleaned with it pulled apart, or just replaced instead (mouser electronics, since GM does not sell the individual part.)
Hence the switch is used to power up the rear left release solenoid to pull the arm back, then drop the power to the release solenoid when the shifter is out of park (so you don't burn up the solenoid). So again, its the micro switch that is not powering up the release solenoid, and the push/bump forward on the shifter often will solve the problem short term until you can deal with the switch.
