This car has 25k miles on the odometer and is factory except for a set of headers and high-flowthrough cats. I recently had the car tuned on a dyno at a very respectable shop.Yesterday after a 45 minute drive I parked the car for about 10 minutes before restarting it. When I hit the start switch I knew something wasn't right. It sounded like the starter was hung for a few seconds before the engine fired up. After driving it for a few minutes I noticed that the check engine light was on and the RPM gauge was not working. I pulled over, read the code and reset and all was good. Any ideas as to what may have caused this?

Check make sure our starter / battery connections are tight. I have had this happen the crank sensor was not getting the correct voltage during the first few seconds and it throughs a code and it does not run well either. The crank sensor is what is making the tach not work.

C5 guy here but P0335 is a crankshaft position sensor DTC...if the sensor starts going wonky you will see a longer than normal time for the engine to start...and why you didn't see your Tach working....checking for RPM when the car isn't starting is a good way sometimes to check to see if you have a bad crank sensor !!
Could be starter terminals failing due to heat from headers causing some other electrical issues (low voltage, crank sensor, etc).
That's exactly what I think may be going on here. Thanks for your reply. I bought the car with a set of AR headers already bolted on (no other mods). Is there a way to protect the vulnerable electrical components, including the CPS, from the heat coming off the headers? I'd like to fix this problem once and for all so that I can take long road trips without worrying.

when you replace the starter, wrap it with a starter blanket. I have a DEI one on mine.
How involved is replacing the starter and the crankshaft position harness on a 2007 C6 with headers? I'm not a mechanic but will happily pay one to do this. I'm just curious to know how much work is involved here.
