Finally got tired of the "truck like" stock shifter and swapped it for a Hinson. Installation was only 30-40 minutes. I also used a bronze shifter cup isolator instead of the stock plastic one. Super impressed after just a couple drives. Very tight(should loosen up with time), unbelievably short throw, impossible to miss 1-4 shifts. No problems hitting R or 6th either. Not a shifter for everyone, but if you want short and fast this is it. MGW is very popular, but i wanted the shorter throw that the hinson offered. Couldn't be happier with this shifter.
Good to here. I have a Hurst shifter on mine and its notchy but i like the feel. Not having access to different units its hard to determine whats best. Everyone claims MGW is the way to go but i'm sure theres many quality brands out there.
I have never used the MGW, B&M, Hurst or any others. I was between the MGW and hinson. I felt like the MGW is more of an improved stock shifter, the hinson is more of a performance/race shifter. I personally wanted the more extreme of the two shifters.
I put the Hinson in my C6Z after reading this post. It was very short on the shifts. Mine had a very bad rattle under light and medium throttle, and at wide open throttle it sounded like it was going to explode in the car. I contacted Hinson and they said to take it apart and grease it. I took it all back apart and found there to be plenty of grease where I was supposed to add it. I also didn't like how you have to arm wrestle it from 4th to 5th gear. I took it out and replaced it with a MGW race spec flat stick. No more rattle and it shifts as smooth as butter now. It's not quite as short as the Hinson, but I no longer have issues with the rattle or hard 4-5 shift. Just my .02
The oem lower box has a linkage rod with an "0" ring that can break off and cause movement in the rod, thus sloppy shifting. MGW uses Teflon seals instead of rubber seals. At the time of my purchase the lower box was separate because it just came out. Now the MGW shifter comes with the lower box which is the way to go. Also, no more 3rd gear miss shifts which was a common issue with the oem shifter.
It was funny when people where having issues with missing 3 rd gear, the internet mechanics were saying "they were shifting wrong" and posted videos on how to shift a C6. LOL! No, it was just that GM installed a P.O.S shifter/box that deteriorated in time. I hope GM improved the design, since 2008 which is my year.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the hinson. I've heard people complain of the rattle, but thought it was resolved with the newer shifters. Mine is completely silent no matter rpm and no problems with getting 5th. Hinson also has a break in period for the shifter to loosen up. I did the anti venom mod, which lightens the shift up a little. Glad you are liking the MGW tho.
