My 07 Coupe A6 I bought new, has 65K on it and needs rod bearings apparently. It will start for three seconds and is very noisy. Its at a shop that won't do this type of heavy line work. I need recommendations badly on what to do/where to take it/good mechanic that won't overcharge me. I'm in south Orange County so a shop anywhere in LA or OC would work. I do not have the money to buy a new engine for it.
What shop is your car currently sitting in? I'm in S OC as well. Are you certain the engine doesn't just have a failed lifter versus rod bearing? My 06 LS2 had a lifter go south at 60k miles and it sounded like marbles banging around in a coffee can as well as oil pressure fluctuating wildly.
What do you mean by" it will start for 3 seconds and is very noisy"?? Does it have good oil pressure?? Does it idle?? Did you check your torque converter bolts??
The mechanic said it is low on oil or has no oil, which I find hard to believe. Wouldn't a warning light come on if no oil pressure? Mechanic said it is very noisy, knocking, and says it sounds like the bottom end.
No it does not idle more than a couple seconds, as it barely starts. Mechanic did not say if it has oil pressure; re-starting the engine to verify oil pressure might cause more damage, correct?

Thank you for the recommendation. I called American Heritage Performance, spoke to Jake, and they are going to get back to me as to whether or not they will do the work.I will keep you updated.
Thank you BigVette427. American Heritage Performance got back to me right away and can do the work. I am making arrangements to have it taken (towed) there shortly.
