Default Corvette Automatic gear select issue

2005 C-6 LS-2 motor, Auto transmission.

I have been enjoying my Corvette now for three months, making improvements while I go. However since last week it won't go from park into gear smoothly. Hope I can find my answers here;

Initially the Vette was stuck in park. After reading on the forum and watching a few Youtube videos I put the car in ACC mode--> start the car--> back to acc mode and after pushing the gear selector a little forward I was able to get it to shift. However now every time when I start the car. I have to push the selector forward until I hear a click before I can select the gear. Does anyone here have an idea how I can solve this?

Appreciate the help!

I'll reply and write you need to remove the center console and inspect.
The solenoid may be failing or needs some aligning...I recall reading a post about alignment/ extending the plunger.
Most notorious is a failure of the bushings on the shifter cable...search there is a $10 busing kit available.
That click noise is a good lead, yet again I think the only way is to remove the console and take a look.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advise, will get the console out next weekend and see if I can locate the problem. Do you have a link on the bushings?

Also if I understand correctly, the solenoid cant be replaced without the entire shift assembly?

It's usually that the switch arm has been bent just enough to not be activated. Until you get in there to re-adjust it, while in Park, just sharply smack the shift lever from SE to NW. There's usually enough play to move the switch.

Found out it was actually the shifter cable that needed tightening. Did replace the gear shift selector as someone did a previous hack job repairing it.

This is what I do. I read this on this forum and it works. When parking: Press brake, put in neutral, engage parking brake, put in park. Turn off engine

This way there is no pressure on the shift selector. And it shifts smoothly out of Park every time now. Before there was always a clunk and resistance when in shifting out of Park.
