I have a 07 base and I'm having an issue with my electrical. Probably beating a dead horse at this point but figured I'd ask anyway. So I went to start my car Monday after it'd been sitting for about 4 days and all the lights came on but the car wouldn't turn over. No big deal, called Triple A and they sent someone out to jump and test the battery. Figured it was the cold since we had a major drop in temp here over the last weekend. The test had a bad result the first, then an 'okay" the 2nd, but the car was running so I drove it to work. The car sat an additional 10 hours at work, and then started right up to go home. Being the paranoid person I am, I decided to just replace the battery since it was under warranty and bought a better one and had it installed last night. Once it was installed I started the car and everything seemed normal.
Well this morning I went out to my car after it'd sat around 20 hours (installed 9am Tuesday, started again 5am today) and it was completely dead. Nothing. Had to key the trunk to manually pop the door to pop the hood to get jumped again with a jumpbox I had bought just incase (hey it paid for itself day 1!). All on a new battery from Orileys. Is it possible the battery just sat on the shelf and the 25* cold killed it overnight since it didn't have a chance to charge back up? I drove it to work (about 30 mins) and had 14-14.2 on the DIC the whole time. One thing I noticed was that I was getting a very loud ground loop noise this morning from my radio (which stopped when I powered it off) and I also lost my chimes to my doors/seatbelt warnings/etc. I plan on doing a parasitic test on the battery but just was wondering if anyone else had some advice for me.
Also, the car sits outside in an apartment complex lot. No way for me to keep a trickle charger on it.
The parasitic test is a start. What about any add-on electronics....phones; mp3 players; radar detector; whatever. Disconnect all of those & test again. Also check all the battery cable connectors both at the battery & at the engine ground & starter motor hot lead.
Put a meter on the battery to monitor the load and then start pulling fuses until the load goes away. You will need to let the battery saver to "time out" when you open the door before you start pulling fuses. Remember that there are 2 fuse boxes. One in the passenger side foot well and the other under the hood.
Also, sounds like you have an aftermarket radio, those can be a problem.
something is definitely pulling the juice and draining it. my battery issue was caused by the car not being in park all the way which didn't turn the ignition completely off and drained it.
