how’s it going, guys!!?? Ok, so, I have a built 408 with heads, cam and all of the supporting parts in bottom end. It’s built for 1400-1500hp. My concern is my oil pressure. It isles hot at around 20-21 psi. It goes up to about 35-40 under normal driving, but here’s where it gets weird, it drops while accelerating and goes up under deceleration. 🤨🤨 Has anyone ever seen this happen? Any help, pointers, or any info would be greatly appreciated.
too thick of oil can cause this as well. I built a monster 383 with a high volume oil pump. It would pump the oil up fataer than it could drain back down theough thr motor. Thats caused the same symptoms with think oil. Put thinner oil back in and problem solved.

Hi,
What weight oil are you using?
We also had the exact issue that you described and after tearing it down two times trying to figure it out and we found the cam bearings were worn out. Installed new cam bearing problem solved.

I’m using Amzoil 10W30. Everything in the motor is brand new. One thing I didn’t mention is that I’m using an Autozone oil pressure sensor. Could this be the issue? I’m using Amzoil 10W30. Put a mechanical oil pressure gage on it. My mechanical gage usually reads about 10psi higher than the one in the dash. And it is the only true way to test.
