Default Drill steam ports?

For anyone that's installed a 4 corner steam kit or used the truck style rear crossover pipe, how did you drill it out without getting metal shavings inside the coolant passage? I've heard someone mention to put grease on the drill bit but wasn't sure if there were other ways. Still debating whether or not to install it. The GM part number I am installing is 12605716. Thanks for any suggestions

Anyone remember the drill bit size you used?

I read on a Cadillac forum that someone used self tapping screws and then pulled it out that way. Hope to experiment with it this weekend.
