Default Brake question

I just recently bought a 2006 base corvette with a lil over 50k on it. I assume the brakes are not stock. My question is...are the rear brake pads to small? From the looks of the wear pattern they are.

Car was bought from a dealership so no info from po.any help is greatly appreciated.

Does your car have the Z51 package?

Here's what I think happened:

Your car is NOT a Z51, and thus came with smaller brake rotors from the factory. At some point, the rear rotors were changed to the Z51 size. However, the Z51 caliper brackets - which push the caliper to cover the entire larger rotor - were not installed.

So, you ended up with Z51 size rotors, but calipers that are set up for non-Z51 rotors. These calipers continue to clamp as if they were camping non-Z51 rotors, creating the odd wear pattern.

Not 100%, but a solid guess, I think!

That is normal. My Z51 rear pads only contract the rear rotors about 80%.

If this is the case, disregard my aforementioned educated guess!

Factory brake rotors are not two piece rotors. Those look to be DBA T3 Club Spec rotors. They may not differentiate between z51 and base brakes with those rotors

@KNSBrakes Ken, can you tell what's going on here?

Pretty typical for a Z51(J55 brakes) car. Here is a picture of some old rotors where you can clearly see the swept area.

Thanks guys. I'm still not all sure what options the car has. I just knew the brakes didn't look factory

It appears the caliper is likely to be a stock OEM J55 caliper, based upon the configuration and the distance from the wheel.
But the rotor (2-piece with 3 rows of holes plus slots vs 2 rows on OEM J55) is definitely aftermarket.
Look on the glovebox lid sticker for all the option codes and then go to https://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c6/2006/ and select "Regular Production Option Codes" for an explanation.

The DBA rotors were never machined like that but it's common on the Z51 rotors to machine that whole flat surface even though the pad only sweeps about 2/3 of it.

It's just an oddish rotor design.

I'd be more worried about the amount of wheel weight on that wheel.
