Default 2005 Column Lock - Tech2 Programming

Hoping you guys can advise me on this. The new column lock replacement parts have been installed in my 2005 M6 and now I need to instruct the BCM to ignore any odd codes from the column lock as a part of the fix outlined in the TSB. I have a Tech 2. Can anyone provide me some guidance on the process or menu selections on the Tech2 to complete the BCM fix to finish the process.

Walk in the park.

Will need to pick up a Ac Delco subscription for $40 to start with so you can get access to the new firmware file.

https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions

Next, if you don't have a rs-232 port on your laptop, will need to buy the needed USB cable so you can connect the tech II to your laptop on a USB port.
https://www.automationdirect.com/adc...cbc2d9fc4103ed

Now the easy part, Put the tech II into pass through mode, connect it to the car with car in run mode motor off, and bring up TDS on your machine to use SPS.
Now using TDS SPS, run through it until you get to the modules mode, and and select Body control module.

In the firmware selection screen utility to disable the steering control lock in calibration, and flash that it.

This will cover you to see what to select the firmware file to flash in.

FYI, it's a new file and one that will not be in TIS2000 unless you have an active account that can connect to GM to pull the needed updated firmware file that was just released this year. Most don't, so TDS for $40 for two years it the cheaper option.

To add, you don't list your location, but I have Tis2000 with working account and could flash the module for free is you where close to me. Others may be close to you with a working account as well, and could save you the $40 for a TDS subscription Too.

Lookup a member on here by the forum name of Dano523. He is the man when it comes to tech 2 stuff. I have one but am unfamiliar with your issue. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! I will check into this and see if we can figure it out. I may ask a few more questions as we get into it if you don't mind.

I am in Tallahassee Florida.

Can you provide the TSB number? I wasn't aware there was new info on this long known problem.

Well so a very frustrating afternoon. Got the usb to rs232 cable and the $40 subscription but cannot for the life of me get the laptop to connect to the Tech2 and the car. I am getting messages from the website to restart my programming interface and when I log in and try to add the VIN, the website takes me to a bunch of warning messages and unread alerts. Once I get SPS up and try to run the process after selecting the Tech2 pass through mode and checking the connection, I just get error messages. I have gone the rough the connection and login process several times and followed the connection instructions on SPS exactly. I don't know if I need to enter the VIN someplace but can't seem to do that. The Tech2 connects to the car fine so it has to be the web, laptop, tech2 connections that is not happening..

Any help appreciated.

Don't even screw around with that. Call Richard and get one of his lcm-6. Solves the problem completely for ever happening again. Here is is website. http://www.complianceparts.com/contactus.html It is not shown on his website, but he does have them. Something like $50.

You need a candi module along with the tech2 to communicate. See my previous reply about the lcm6.

When you start SPS the first time, you have to set it up correctly. There are a few programs that you needed to download and install, as well as allowing a few sites to get through, then final Java updates that are needed.

After this and you have sps start up, when you get the first pop in SPS , did you install the Tech II J2534 driver or not?
Attachment 48333893

Lastly, with Tech II connected to the machine, go in device manager and make sure that the tech II is showing up in the list as well.

Also to point out, not sure where you bought your Tech II kit from, but should have come with a candi module from the start that should be in play,

Myself, I just use a VX nano most of the time, since the VX driver works for SPS (don't have to load either bosch drivers), nor play the extra candi/usb cord since the usb cord that comes with it is all that is needed for SPS programming.

Thanks for providing TSB. A lot of great info on this well known problem. Hopefully someone will do a you tube video on the do it yourself. I would be willing to pay for the reflash after putting in the part even though my five year old bypass is still working aok.

Most, if not all, of the column lock problems I see with 05's is the ribbon data cable. So much easier to install the column bypass module. No column dis assembly or reprogramming required.

I have been stuck even with the bypass installed. Now I don't worry about it.

The SLCM has a few relays in it that will ***** the bed over time themselves. If its the SLCM the problem (not the steering column lock device itself), you can replace the relays for cheap to fix it most of the time, but eliminator is not going to solve the relay/SCLM problem.

So what the reflash does, it takes the SCLM and even the steering column lock completely out of the math to begin with. If you have a Tech II, then TDS account is only $40 for two year, and cheaper than any eliminator on the market to start with.

Hell, for the most part, you really don't even need to install the replacement ring without locking tabs, since like when you do the eliminator, you just put the steering column lock into the unlock position, disconnect it from the SCLM and it will stay in the unlocked position. The locking ring just makes sure if the steering column is still in play, if it fires/jams to the locked position somhow, it not going to lock the wheel instead.

Forum,

I need to program my BCM to remove column lockout.

The physical column lock has been replaced per the TSB.

I've got a tech 2 (laptop) but this is a little out of my comfort zone (alone), but I'm a DIYer.

Anybody live in Norther Virginia and done this themselves?

Dave
