Default Ranger #4 - clutch fluid still dirty

Hey folks,

Been routinely doing the Ranger clutch fluid flush over the past 2 months - 4 times total.

Fluid is still dark!

How many times should I expect to do this?

Car is 2010 with 66k miles, and I suspect the clutch fluid is otherwise original...

Yeah, if its that dirty you'll use an entire large container of fluid easy. There's dirt collected in the master, slave, and the line internal surfaces and it will keep contaminating fluid until its all washed out, not to mention the dirt that you normally acquire. I was about to give up, and slowly the fluid finally cleared over time. Now (and I'm really fussy about this) I'm down to about once a month to keep it perfect. IMHO, buy the Valvoline 3/4 fluid in the large container its the best way to go. Bleed the brakes too with the same fluild, it will be as dirty as the clutch.

I plan to do a Z51 brake upgrade this summer, so I will tackle the brake fluid then. Not sure how to bleed the brakes, though...

As for the clutch fluid:
I will continue to do it every few days as time permits. I am about 60% through a bottle of OEM, ACDelco fluid.

You could do it every day and still the next time that you drive the car the fluid will turn darker. Do not drive yourself crazy with this eternal hunt for clear clutch fluid. It's a fool's errand. Do it a few times, then put yourself on a schedule, say every 6 months or so, and stop making yourself crazy with it.

Great advice, thanks.

I'll do it two more times, and then go to the long-term schedule.

Default Clutch fluid

I fixed the problem with my dirty clutch fluid. I sold my standard shift and bought a automatic! No more clutch fluid!

That’ll definitely solve the problem! How much power is the new auto set up making? 800+whp? 900+whp? Maybe 4 digits wheel!!! That’s awesome man!

If not....auto vette....🤮🤢

Remote bleeder is simply a hydraulic hose from the bleeder location on the slave cylinder to the a place easier to reach. You might try to find someone that would be willing to install one for you if you think you want to go this route. Mine is zip tied to the master cylinder so its easy for me to bleed.

Power is not the problem, reaching your 80th birthday and handling shift's with two bad shoulders is the problem!

Try this when using the Ranger method...drain the clutch fluid out of the reservoir, add new fluid, then pump the clutch pedal about 30 times & check the fluid, it should be dirty again. Repeat this process as many times as needed until the fluid appears to be clear, this may take 5 or 6 times with really dirty fluid

I think when I did the clutch pump method, I pumped it about 10-15 times. Will try this next time. Overall, I've done it 4-5 times now...

Will just do it once a month until it is clear!

Thanks all!

Thank you very much! This is my 15th Corvette and my last as I have told my wife more than once! I will drive one as long as I can get in and out of it!
