If your car is NOT a Z51, many owners here over the years have reported great satisfaction switching to Bilstein shocks. The ones used on non Z51 cars "were" called "HD" but they changed nomenclature a couple years ago and I think the new designation is "B6". If that is wrong info someone will correct me here.
If you want to spend a lot more money for what "may be" the very best of both ride and handling worlds, check out Koni FSD shocks.
Tires can greatly impact ride comfort as well. Which make/model tires are currently on the car?
Agreed, took off run flats and mounted non RF’s. Then found we had a bent rim, replaced it and now the rough ride with lots of vibration was solved. Now looking to see if we should replace the shocks too before we take the long ride to Kentucky.
Hmmm, hard to say then. Folks on here have said that the Bilsteins are nicer performing than factory, be it with or without z51. Take that with a grain of salt though.
The B6 is the softer shock, as mentioned above. It will likely come down to a roughly $400 (plus install) gamble for you on whether it provides a ride that is acceptably soft for you.

The Koni FSD shocks I hear are great, but I've also heard there is a weak link in them and fixing that puts you at nearly $1000 for shocks.

Shocks are certainly tricky to nail. I think both the Bilstein B6 and B8s are lower pressure shocks than the OEM Z51 shocks. Even the DRM versions, which I am running right now, feel like lower pressure compared to the OEM Z51 shocks. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it does make the car feel different.
If you do auto-x or track the car, I could see this issue, however, I would wager you would not likely see this kind of failure on the street with normal driving. Even if you did, you may be able to get replacement pieces from Koni (not confirmed since I never checked into it).
Otherwise, you could just buy the Strano kit. The huge downside of the Strano kit, is that it was designed with racing in mind and most people say you should expect it to make noise.
