Default Why does my car sound so different

I have a cammed 05 ls2 that I cannot seem to find a decent sounding exhaust for. I have gone through 3 different mufflers on stock manifolds. Stock cats and H pipe.
Same 3 mufflers with no cats aswell. I am trying to retain stock manifolds as car will be rear mount turbo'd this winter. Therefore this is mainly educational but still open to changing exhaust up some as there are other cars ive heard in person with similar set ups sound soo different. That make me want to change it now. Aside from headers cuz ive heard stock manifold cars sound similar to a header car.

That being said what makes my car sound like this:

https://youtu.be/3JmUhcLto4Md

other ls2 vettes sound like this?

https://youtu.be/ctqGFAM2yfk

Please educate me!

Well you gotta copy and paste the links so that’s probably gonna limit responses but I went ahead and did the extra work lol.

To me it’s the sound difference is all the in the specific cams that are in each car and the tune to go along with it. Those are your major differences. Now add on headers(size/brand) x pipe size, and different mufflers you’ll have some variation but what you’re probably hearing that’s so different to you is the cam....find out what the specs are and post those it well tell a us a lot, after that how each car is tuned is gonna change the note, chop or lack of...the idle all that plays into what you’re asking so it’s not a simple answer man....lots of variables going on here. Get more specifics on the cars you like or don’t like and match or don’t match those and you won’t be chasing your tail so much. Good luck man🇺🇸

Cam on my car is 228/230 I .585"/.585" on a 112 LSA tuned on HP tuners.

Second car on video Tick Performance Street Heat Stage 3 POLLUTER Camshaft for LS2 Engines
239/244 | .635”/.610” | LSA111+2, tuned on hp tuners.

My car just doesnt sound refined. Gives me the impression of a sbc truck.ive heard other cars with my exact cam sound completely different.

No worries on the link just not sure how many other people you’ll get to offer an opinion is all. I’m no expert but I hit the ground running and in my short time as a vette owner I’ve taken **** in through a fire hose lol. Anyway there’s a decent amount of difference in the two cam specs posted add it a few other changes parts wise and you’ll get a different sound. Who tuned each car is important....same tuner did both cars? Can you upload the file on here for each car?

I’ve been around enough C6z o LS7’s and LS3 that I can come close at guessing cam specs buy listening I’ll give an example in a few on here. I’ll load an idle clip of my car that has a custom grind cam I had spec’d and I’ll load a buddy car with similar mods but an unknown cam spec. Both cars have similar tunes more than likely although I haven’t seen his file. Maybe it will help maybe not? If you can get the hyper links or have the video posted you’ll get more than one guys opinion and maybe help out more.

Ill work on that today, no idea who tuned the other car, and i tuned mine. Runs great, afr spot on, ve table is perfect. I just didnt think the cam would make one car more "crisp" than another. I can post the tune file Friday, my laptop HDD died and im waiting on replacement.

If you are viewing in Microsoft Edge, the links are clickable to get to the video.
If you are viewing in Google Chrome, highlight the url, right click and select the Go To (url) option.
If you are viewing on a smart phone, IDK because I still use a flip phone.

Tune file is gonna get out of my range man, but if some of the guys who know that stuff get in on this thread I’m sure they’ll want it to help possible zone in on what’s different.

My C6z 👇🏻 Cam specs: 118+4 (234/254) .649/.632

similar C6z but unknown cam spec’s 👇🏻

Greatly appreciate your help this far, im leaning towards headers being the difference in sound but being that it will be rear mount turbo'd this winter im hesitant to purchase unless one of the rearmount guys can chime in that LT's can benefit. My knowledge says no due to heat dissipation and runner length reasons.

Yeah man I can’t give you good advice on a rear mount turbo set up, my shop does lot of turbos haven’t seen a rear mount yet but I could run it by them, I’ll be up there tomorrow or maybe just ask some guys on the F/I section lots of turbo guys and a few active turbo threads going on now you could probably get a bunch of info from, I think there’s to many variables to chase down the tone of yours vs others without putting the exact set up on your car headers all the way back. I think both cars sounded good from the videos you posted not sure which was yours, you could also be “over hearing” a little lol if that makes any sense....like the grass is always greener maybe? Have other guys heard the same thing your referencing and pointed it out before you keyed them in?

Rear mounts are alittle less efficient which is why its less common, but they make for a great driver if done right. The thing that stirred the pot is my wife said it sounds like an old beat up farm truck not a vette and my buddys refer to it as the seafood market(because it sounds like a cammed shrimp boat.) Its the car in the daylight video

I have not listened to the video, but manifolds will always give a much muddier sound than longtubes will.

My knowledge agrees with you both but heres part of why i am doubtful of this.
In this video the car is stated to be oem exhaust with only a cat delete. His youtube page shows mods in a for sale video.
In my Opinion this car doesnt sound muddy like my manifolds

We need to know more and that I’m pretty sure is a ZO6 so LS7 is gonna change the game man, but that does sound pretty standard for a cat delete cam’d LS7

depending on how busy my shop is today I’ll let them listen to your car on here and see what they hear, just depends cause I’m trying to get mine out today....

Well just a confirmation on what’s he’s running, does he have stock manifolds? Is it only a cat delete or does he have 3” xpipes making it a true 3” system? And confirm I’m correct it’s an LS7, sure looks like a ZO6 but I can’t fully see the front fenders
