I found that the Cut-out as suggested and from the template is not very accurate. There are lots of gaps between the Cut shroud and the Intake housing.
So I used some 1/8 inch black foam rubber sheet that I brought home from work. Tested it with a heat gun and an IR temp gun to see how it held up to high temp (300 deg F) and attached it to the Vararam Intake Lower Housing. This completely closes the gaps, so the incoming air only goes to the Intake and the Radiator/A-C Condenser. Also, the Front of the Shroud gets cut away and no longer fits tight against the front framing. So I made a cross-brace from some 1/2 inch aluminum right-angle stock to re-attach the left and right sides of the front of the cut-away shroud. I attached the cross-brace and the foam rubber sheet with screws.
Along with a Custom Tune from Lew on my Diablo i3 inTune, and the new Cooper RS3 Summer tires, there is now a BIG difference from how my '07 Base A6 used to perform, and how it does now.
