So I have an 05 that used to shift really hard into 1st and reverse half the time. Instead of pulling the trans and sending it out to get rebuilt I decided to give the clutch master cylinder and shifter a try first. I ended up going with a Tick master cylinder and MGW shifter. The difference was huge, the hard shifting happens a LOT less, the overall feel is a lot smoother and precise. As I get the master cylinder adjustment dialed in just a little bit more the problem may go away completely.
I wanted to post this for anyone else who has the same problem I had. This would be something to try before you dive in and yank the transmission and spend thousands of dollars on a rebuild.
Just keep in mind that the Clinton master cylinder is wider in channel, so will push more fluid to the slave than the OEM unit with the same amount of stroke. This is the reason that you have to dial in about 3/4" dead play top of pedal stroke and relocate the pedal pin , so you don't end up over extending the pressure plate spring fingers by the TB pushing pressure plate too far in on a full pedal push isntead.
So the real test for adjust the tick clutch pedal, is to make sure it goes cleanly into reverse.
As for first gear if the trans will go into reverse without problems, would dare to guess that you did not index the shifter correctly when the box was reinstalled isntead.
Dano523, Quick question. I am having some shifter issues and found that my linkage to shifter is slipping. Any chance you know the torque of the bolt on the clamp for the linkage?
Thanks
