Default '05 M6 transmission fluid shop manual typo?

Funny how the trans has a huge orange decal that says Dex III, the fluid specification in the shop manual says Dex III, but when you flip to the section on checking fluid level, it says to top off with Dex VI. I thought Dex VI wasn't backwards compatible in this application. This type of thing gives me a brain tumor.

GM's communication about this has been clear as mud.

The May 2009 GM TechLink bulletin specifically recommends "Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Fluid" P/N 88861800 instead of Dexron-VI for manual gearboxes that originally used Dexron-III.

That's the most definitive information I've seen and that's what I use. ~150K miles, so far so good.

In my 05 I've been experimenting trying to improve my shifting performance. I thought about this oil, but I believe this is only for manual transmissions 2007+ . I switched to Mobil One ATF (Dexron-III ratings on back on of bottle) and I have a slightly smoother shifting trans now. (Also put in a LS 7 clutch, so who really knows).

BG products Syncro-shift II and you won't believe how quite the car gets!, I use it the trans axle on my Nissan Versa and it made a big improvement in that too, it improves shifting also, once you change you will never go back to ATF
