Default Headlight lens replacements?

Hey guys, I’m looking to replace my headlight lens’ due to previous owner tinting them. I see price range from $100-$300. Is there a known good brand you all use? I only want to do this once.

I assume you have a c6, I would check Umnitza or RLSebring for a new lens.

Both have excellent reviews, I personally went with Umnitza lenses.

Thanks! I’ll check them out. I just don’t want any fitment issues or some cheap material. And yea, I have a C6 Z06 now, sold the twin turbo C5 Z06.

RL Sebring lenses fit great. It's a pain to get them apart, but well worth it.

I think thats what Im going with along with the thicker gaskets. You just use the heat gun method?

I used the oven, but had to keep them in there longer than what is stated in the instructions.

I too used the oven and then used the heat gun also, start in one place and get the process moving. Then back in the oven, heat gun again on removal and it will come completely apart. (OK for me on the second the light. The first light it was 3 oven cycles with the heat gun and lots of effort and learning the technique, not easy on the first light!)

I experimented with the first light lens and purposely overheated the removed lens with the gun to test the heating limits and it was much higher before damage than I thought.

That made the second lens much easier to remove.

I did not like the Umnitza gaskets at all. I soaked the old original ones in Aerospace 303 and polished them with a black restorer. I would probably prefer a new and ticker gasket, but I used the old ones and they look fine. (2005 C6)

Suggestions:
  • Get some spring clips, I used about 8 on a single lens, they will attach to the lip of the light and over 24 hours completely seat the clear lens into the housing. This avoids you having to push to get the lens seated.
  • I used PL4 (?? whatever is recommended by RLSebring ) and standard butyl rubber supplied by Umnitza on the other lens. The butyl is a bit easier, IMHO, and neither one had an out gas" as far as I could tell.
  • My Umnitza lens where covered on both sides with a light plastic wrap. Clean the parts you are reusing, only then remove the wrap and immediately install the lens. My lenses look clean and clear even with the lights are on.
  • I used Lamin-X film on the lenses, it does a sight "orange peel" look, but once you see a scratch, and then it magically heals ... well you can decide.

Great information guys thanks! I’ve also read of guys using windshield urethane sealant. Supposed to be better than butyl.
