I picked up a new set of wheels. Im not sure if they have TPMS in them and if they do I don't know which year C6 they might for. What I do know is when in learn mode dropping air pressure didn't program them like my old set would. If I take them to a tire shop will the tool be able to tell what kind of sensor is in place or if they even have sensors installed or will they have to remove the tire and physically look?
I went to a Pep Boys and they were unable to locate any TPMS Sensors with there tool. These are after market wheels and there is a second set of valve stems for the TPMS on the back side of the wheel. He did try both front wheels at this location and wasn't able to get anything. I find this kind of odd and I feel there are some in there. I know there are different TPMSs for different years but the seller told me these came off of a grand sport and they are going on a grand sport so they should work assuming the batteries aren't dead. I think Im going to order one of those cheap tools from Amazon to see if I can do a better job locating them before I buy new sensors.
If I understand correctly, the year of your car and model of TPMS used needs to be compatible. Maybe someone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
That's correct. The sensors for 05-09 are the same, and those from 2010-2013 are different.
2005-09 are P/N 25758220 and run at 315.0 mhz - AC Delco or Schrader
2010-13 are P/N 15268606 and run at 314.9 mhz - AC Delco or Schrader
They are not interchangeable with each other
Also, many aftermarket generic sensors will not work correctly. They tend to read/not read intermittently.
Wouldn't the tool be able to read if there was a sensor there even if it was the wrong one? He told me he had it set to read if there was one there and it told him "non available"
I decided to order one of the cheap relearn tools to see if I could maybe do a better job of getting them to read if not Im just going to order OEM replacement and have them added/changed from what ever is in there
Find a tire or service store with a real TPMS tester. Such as the OTC 3838
It will show you frequency, temp, battery level, tire pressure, serial number.
I got my TPMS tool today and nothing. Cant get them to register. I have to assume at this point they are either 2005-2009 sensors or there are no sensors installed. Looks like ill be getting some new ones.
Final update. I got the new GM TPMS in and the learn tool I got from Amazon wouldn't recognize them. Took the car to a trusted Pep Boys location and their tool instantly recognized the new sensors un mounted and still couldn't get the old one to read. Swapped them out and all is good now.
