I have a 2012 Grand Sport and I failed NJ inspection with two issues. When they plugged into the OBD port it came up with: Fuel System - Not Ready and Evaporative System - Not Ready. I used the Torque App to check when I got home and there are no codes but the same two issues. Anybody have any ideas of what it could be or what I can check?
Typically, "Not Ready" is the result of the battery being disconnected recently, and the solution is to drive it for another couple of weeks. There is more detailed info about the required drive cycle on the Forum; try a search. Some states allow the inspection station to ignore the problem in certain circumstances.
The battery has not been disconnected for over six months when I replaced the battery. I drove the car for over 500 miles and two weeks later still have the issues.

I just went through NJ Inspection and ALL my monitors were set the night before I took it because my battery was disconnected...you can have 1 not complete and still pass Inspection and the hardest one to set is EVAP...on my C5 the fuel has to be between 1/4 to 3/4 of a tank !!...and you can't have even pending DTC's or it won't set...luckily I have a few scan tools and I used my Tech 2 and took 5 minutes to run the EVAP test using the "Service Bay" test. Cruise up to Monmouth County and I'll take care of it for you...LOL !!!...I don't remember what sets the Fuel System monitor.
I had a similar issue - battery disconnected - O2 sensors no history. Tried all of the reset tricks (coasting from 55, no clutch action, etc. Risk life & limb on the freeway LOL). Drove several hundred miles, no Bueno. Finally had my tuner "fix it". Then un-fixed it after it was approved...
I picked up the Vapor Canister Purge Valve so I'll put that on tonight when I get home from work to see what that does. I know someone that has one of the high end Snap-On diagnostic tool similar to the Tech 2 that will check it after I get the valve installed. What a pain, I moved up to a C6 from my C4 so I could drive more and take some road trips and now it just sits.
If you don't have any pending or current EVAP DTC's I wouldn't fire the parts canon and change the purge valve...like I said the EVAP is the hardest monitor to set and you can drive for weeks and it not set !!...any bi directional scan tool will work...I would have him do the Service Bay Test first !!

Your friend should be able to "force" the EVAP system test to run with his scanner, as mentioned you need between 1/4 & 3/4 of a tank of fuel to get the test to run.
