I have a 2007 Z06 that has Kooks LT Headers, Black Widow R Cam, as well as a few other modifications. I've had the car for over 3 years without any issues, until now...
Lately, the car has had issues starting back up after driving it long enough to warm the engine. Here's an example: The car will start just fine as long as it is a cold start, no hesitation at all. However, if I turn the car off after the engine has warmed up, the car will struggle to turn over to start and if it does, the car will sometimes go into a "limp mode" where I lose power steering and my tachometer. After I shut the car down, and let the car cool off for approx. 30 min to an hour, the car will start just fine without any issues at all. I am thinking that I need to replace the starter, however due to the fact that the car starts just fine on every cold start, it makes me second guess the purchase. I have also purchased a heat shield for the starter that I plan to install next week to see if that corrects the issue. Maybe the starter is becoming too hot from the headers and the heat has worn on the starter for some time now?
Anyone else have any ideas or maybe had a similar issue? Looking for some advice here.
Thank you,
Alan

Look, cleaning the terminals won't do it. the solenoid has a baklelite endcap where the main power stud is attached. Over time the heat deteriorates that and the main stud becomes loose like a loose tooth when the car is hot. Search here on the forums and you'll find a number of threads about it. You can replace the solenoid and it will be fine again for a time. Wrapping it is useless. Might take longer to heat the solenoid up but then it holds the heat in. I put a Powermaster starter in because it doesn't have a bakelite endcap on the solenoid. Have not had an issue since.
Bear in mind that you do have to cut one terminal off the starter wire harness and solder a ring connector on if you go that route.
