Default Hud display and trans issue

Hey guys,

So I have an '05 that I've been doing a lot of work to what has been my daily for the past year. I noticed my head's up display went from working to showing up as a solid (green) block intermittently for about a week. I decided since I didn't like using it at night and it kind of distracts me from enjoying just cruising, so I to turned it off for a week. Now it's just stuck as a big *** block and not showing any of the info. It was working fine for about a year after I bought it. Anybody ran into this problem before?

I also wanted to add that ever since I bought it it will grind when you shift into first from any other gear or neutral besides second gear. I'm hoping this would be an easier fix and I just got used to shifting down then up.

If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated

Trans: My '05 didn't grind but it was difficult shift into gear, with second the worst. Although I changed several small items first, finally the new clutch made all the difference (my pilot bearing was nearly frozen because the grease had dried out.) Step one, be sure your clutch hydraulic fluid is clean!!

HUD: I there is a semi-transparent screen in the HUD that creates the display that the lights inside the HUD shine through to the mirrors that project the image. The screen is controlled by a rather large circuit board. Based on the way mine looked inside it seems like the some of the air from the AC unit cooled the HUD and the screws rusted (by condensation - its really humid here) including some of the small electrical components on the board.

I'd guess its far cheaper just to buy a new HUD than attempt a repair if the electrical board is your problem.

The fluid seems okay but I'll keep digging. I was really hoping to avoid replacing the HUD but it's not the most terrible thing in the world I suppose. 😅
