Default rear end clicking

I am getting the rear end clicking and replaced the fluid in the differential. I used Red-Line 75w90NS and didn't add any modifier, is that the right fluid? link:

I didn't add the friction modifier, do I need to open it back up and do that?
Amazon Amazon

after i replaced the fluid (drained, put in 2 new quarts) I did a few slow figure 8 turns and then drove the car saturday and yesterday and it was still there. Yesterday I found an empty parking lot and did some higher speed tight circles both left and right and it still exists turning left. I found the TSB where it says to remove the wheel, clean the surfaces and reinstall and I will do that this weekend but was checking for additional things that might need to be done.

Thanks

Thanks

I think i put the wrong fluid in so i need to add friction modifier, but maybe I will replace the axle nut as well.

https://www.redlineoil.com/75w90-ns-gl-5-gear-oil
  • Designed for transmissions and transaxles - helps to slow synchros for easier shifting across a broad temperature range
  • Popular in Ferrari, Porsche and Subaru transaxles
  • Muscle Car applications like Ford Top Loader, Muncie transmissions, Borg-Warner T-10 and Super T-10
  • Contains extreme pressure additives like our 75W90 GL-5 oil, but lacks friction modifiers to balance slipperiness
  • Improved copper corrosion protection to prolong synchro life
  • Helps with lock-up on weak limited-slip differentials-compatible with Red Line Limited Slip Friction Modifier for tuning slippage
  • Also used with clutch-type LSDs in racing for maximum lock up
  • Recommended for API GL-5, GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E and SAE J2360

The axle nut is easy enough to fix as well and I read that a $8 axle nut might need to be replaced and its easy to

can you confirm this is the axle nut?

https://www.zip-corvette.com/97-13-rear-axle-nut.html

Does anybody know if GM has a part lookup that will give you a dealership that has the part in stock? Nissan has it and you can type in the part and it tells you which dealerships report having that part in stock (which is awesome that you can search every dealership without having to call 10 different locations)

From experience, no you don't need to do that. <sarcasm for those about to reply>

In about 50 miles the rear end will start to make awful noises that will make the clicking from the axle nuts seem like a non-problem. How much friction modifier should be added for the fluid type/brand you purchased. Can you add too much or too little ? I don't know the answer so I ...

.... bit the bullet and purchased the AC Delco brand gear oil for the diff. I have (05 Manual) and after two figure eighths not a single grind, pop, nothing.

I added 3/4 of a bottle of the friction modifier and the noise become less prevelant but didn't go away, finally last weekend I pulled the original fluid and put the AC Delco fluid in and the noise went away immediately. I also read that if you use the modifier fluid you're supposed to put that in first and then add the fluid over the top. When I added the modifier, I just pumped it in...

So net/net... AC Delco fluid = no clicking, Redline /w modifier (incorrectly installed) = clicking.

p.s. this is almost certainly a result of the moron spinning the wrench (me) and not the fluid as I have used Redline fluids in other cases and it was great.
