Grinding noise in power steering pump?
I have a high grinding/metallic noise from? my power steering. It comes when steering wheel is turned to full stop right/left. Under normal driving all feels normal but under heavy turning, i.e. on track, or stand still at full end stops, you get this loud metallic griming noise.
I also noticed that the return flow of oil to the PS-reservoir stops completely when the wheel is at full lock. No fluid leaks, oil looks like new, or other symptoms noticed.
Is the stop of return flow normal (which coincides with the noise) normal or does that indicate a shot pump?
FYI I did rebuild the pump with new o-rings and bearings, new oil, PS bigger oil cooler and new belt ... did I miss something during reassembly
