My 05, has just started cutting off while driving. It's an auto trans and I can push the start button without braking to restart. This comes on the heels of getting error codes of a bad #7 ignition coil. Replaced the coil and plug. Fixed that issue. Now its cutting off while driving. It's got 14k miles, rarely comes out of the garage. Just started using a gas additive because it sits so much. While making the adjustments removed the battery cables, then the nav radio clock disappeared. Saw the fix in this forum and it worked like a charm. Just not sure if this is an ignition switch problem. Thoughts??
need to see if the problem is an electrical one, or the fuel pump not holding pressure to fuel starve the motor instead.
Myself, would pull the BCM and ECM connectors (battery disconnected) to give then a good cleaning to start with, and even give the engine fuse box a once over to make sure that problem is not a bad connections/ at the fuel pump relay prongs.
Short of that, data log the car to see if the BCM is giving the ECM the motor kill command, from say a bad starter switch on the dash. Also, when the car shuts down, are you losing power completely for a few seconds. If yes, then need to check the connection point on the starter solenoid where the alternator and battery wire come together there since this may be the source of the problem.
Also, just a FYI, but there is two connectors behind the battery on the fender wall that you want to pull and clean as well. The larger of the two is the ECM connector wires back up to the BCM that could have corrosion problems causing the problem.
