Question ,, removing mufflers on a 2005 C6, doing this on my back on the garage floor , rear wheels up on 5 inch. ramps , is there enough room to swing the muffler & pipe out ,
With just 5 inches pretty sure you wont have enough room to get the pipe up over the axle. I had mine on a lift and pretty sure that the muffler was well below the wheels when I got it to come up over the axle.
No. The mufflers and the over axle pipe are welded together unlike after market systems. I was up on ~20 inch jack stands and could not get them out so I just cut the OE pipe in about the same place as the after market systems.
kinda what I figured , it would be 5 inches plus the normal height of the car, I could use a additional floor jack for more room but really don't want to go crazy high
I removed mine with the rear up on a set of Rhino Ramps so it can be done. As noted, you have to disconnect the sway bar so you can rotate it out of the way.
ok, I'm cutting open my Bill Boat old ROUTE 66 MUFFLERS, too quiet,, going to pull out all the fiberglass & weld back up.. any one have any idea what they will sound like ?

My SWAG -- I would think that the fiberglass would attenuate the lower frequencies because the spacing between the fibers is closer lower to Hz. Again it is my "Some Wild *** Guess". If you go through with this plan I would appreciate feedback on the results.
they have more of a spots car type sound now, not the small block Chevy sound I want , pulled the mufflers today, start cutting open tomorrow , will post how they sound later
OK, done , cut them open , removed all fiberglass/ steel wool , everything inside , except the perforated square tube , welded back up , re-installed
the sound is a little louder / little more rumble, not much . was hopping for more , well, not worth my sore back / knees etc. doing this on the floor of my garage @ 71 years old. , old car guys never say die , but I feel like it , i'm sore , but many beers really help

71 years old, on your back, f'ing with mufflers? You're a bad ***! I'm closing in on 65. I try to get the younger generation to do that kind of stuff. Luckily, my son lives and breathes that stuff. Very similar to me at his age. He recently did heads, cam, headers, handling upgrades on my base coupe. I helped a little when he'd let me....
