The laser lens or the mirror is likely dirty with dust etc. You can try to run a cleaner CD, or get a can of compressed air for electronics and blow into the unit. If those 2 things don't work, then the Nav unit top can be removed, which will give you access to the top of the CD, and you can slide the CD table manually to get access to the laser lens and clean it with alcohol and a Q tip.
Seen it both way, with sometimes just the top of top lens needing to be clean, and worse with the prism below the top lens dirty and they needing to be cleaned instead (top lens has to be removed to get to the lower prism.
