Brake Fluid Reservoir bad condition. Refinish? Replace?
Hey all. I wouldn't imagine im the only one whose brake reservoir surface has chipped away and looks bad. My car is an 07 so it looks like the reservoir can't be bought separately. It looks like my two options would be replace the entire master cylinder with an 09+, or try sanding and painting this one. Anyone tried this? Thoughts?
Master Cylinder Reservoir part # is 19178795. Verify this with your dealer
Thanks. I see this is for master cylinders for 09-13 cars. I have an 07. I'd be down to try it if but if anyone knows if they are interchangeable that'd be helpful.
Sorry for not noticing the year of your car when I first replied. How about this part #? 19209245.
I've been looking at that one, it seems as though its discontinued. There's a couple of places that still sell them but they're much more $$. Could still be an option I won't rule out. Definitely interested to know if 09+ can swap out or not. Thanks.
When the next brake fluid change is due I'd remove the brake cylinder reservoir and get a quality paint/coating applied or replace w/ a new unit.
May find one on ebay?
I recently bought a 06 ZO6 master cylinder from Rock Auto, cost $75. The only difference from the oe part was different script on the reservoir cap, otherwise it functions perfectly, although must say was manufactured in China.

Thanks for the rock auto recommendation. I don’t shop there but it did list part number ACDelco 18M2535, which says it’s for 05-08 cars and is not discontinued, runs about $70-80. Might be the way to go.
Does anyone else’s reservoirs look like this or is it just me? Mines looked like it since I bought the car so not sure if someone took perfect care of it or washed it in acid.

I've never seen one that looked that bad. My guess ---- I think somebody tried to coat or paint it with something non-compatible with the plastic.
I don't know about a Corvette since I've never done it, but a couple of older cars I worked on the fluid reservoir could be removed and a new one with new o-rings installed.
Unashamed thread jack. I have the exact opposite problem. My master cylinder is good but the booster looks like crap. Anyone know where to get a booster for a 07 z?

Probably from an engine degreaser (or some type of chemical) when they went to clean the engine bay.
baxsom-Check ACDelco p/n 14pb4068 on line for replacement brake booster for your Z06.Rock Auto has the Cardone p/n 54-71263 reman GM brake booster for $133.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. So my thought process around this was to try to use what I have and refinish it. If it looked like crap, then I could replace. Might as well. Anyways I sanded it down with 80 grit and went over it with 240 afterwards and here we are. Same reservoir. Only took about 30 minutes of sanding.

Maybe hit it with a coat or two of Krylon clear now?
I thought about it but i suspect it might make the finish look bad. not sure. whatever was chipping off had a softer consistency than the underlying reservoir material so I'm almost wondering if someone tried to paint or clear it before and that's what caused this.
