Can the airbag itself (arrow, you know the round, metal encased exploding land mine in the middle with the yellow label), be removed from the rest of the steering wheel center piece? I want to remove the airbag and still be able to attach the center piece (Figure 1) back onto the steering wheel.
If this can be done, will it cause an airbag warning to be displayed on the dash? If removing the airbag will cause this alarm, what needs to be done so that won't happen. Please, no need to ask or comment as to why I want to remove the air bag. Thank you.
Yes, you can remove the metal frame from the cover and then remove the airbag from the metal frame. Replace the cover back on the metal frame and re-install back on the wheel. While you have the cover off you can replace the center medallion as well (if wanted).
