Problem with nav/radio replacement.

i bought 2 different times the fix it disk.
neither one corrected the problem. the disk were the correct ones with an R as last letter.
so i bought a replacement off of this forum. I think the radio worked once and the flip up access door opened while i was attempting to install. .
got it all installed, turn on and got the dreaded theft lock . nothing worked. so i contacted the guy i got it from to get the vin # so i could go to a chevy dealer and have it programmed. it is out of a 2012. i thought it would work after reading many write ups on the forum. went to dealer he looked at the vin and asked if it was a 2012. i said yes. "wont work!" u will need to have a new harness wired up to get this to work.
anyone have any comments on what i can do?
Is there a place where i can send my original one to for repair?
thanks

ok i just called don from doctor dons. he said the chevy dealer i went to doesnt know it can be done.
any one with a tach II can put in the matching vin #. newer updated nav systems 2006-2013 will work. but not all the new additions that the 2005 didnt have, they would require some wiring to get those working.
2nd 2005 can no longer be rebuilt by dons due to no parts available.

O5 on the left, 2112 with usb port on the right.

Also, 2005 did not have steering wheel controls (wires in connector thing), but your 2005 harness will work with the 2012 unit (but will not having steering wheel controls until you add them to the steering wheel.change clock spring, and add a few wires in to the factor connector need as well.
Here is the wire connector mod to get the steering wheel wires connected to the connector to make it work once you have swapped the steering wheel and clock spring to one with steering wheel controls.

So, 2012 nav will work with a 2005 it is had a Nav system in it to begin with. If you had a 6 disc radio before and the car is bose (look at the door speakers and see if it says Bose), then the VSS connector will be taped back to the main connnector to grab and use it. If 6 disc changer before and not Bose, then will need to add in the VSS connector, the Nav antenna, and the mic on the driver side A pillor (wiring and connector should already be there).
If you want to add in a USB connector so say the center glove box area, then usb port is already on the unit. If you want to add blue tooth to the car, then will need to swap out the VICM to a later unit that does have blue tooth. (note, gets a little funky, since the newer VCIM with blue tooth will have a different serial number, so if connecting XM, have to read the serial number off the radio to give to them, and not the just use the Vin number isntead).
As for why the dealer can not get the unit to clear and re-marry with the tech II, it because they are in the wrong Tech II menu.
So on the tech II,
F0, diagnostic
2005
passenger car
Chevrolet
Y model
Body and accessories
Nav systems ( not entertainment menu that they are going into currently)
Module set up
Nav radio
Vin relean
Hence when they go into the entertainment menu, and select radio to do a relearn (even if they grab the nav radio in that menu), it looking for the standard CD radio, and will get errors all day long with the nav radio not vin cleared so it can learn the cars BCM on the first start up to marry instead.
