Default Crank shims?

I’m replacing balancer oil pump and crank timing gear.
Are these 2 shims necessary to replace?

There should be no shims there.Take a photo of them flat off the car so we can get a better look at them. There should be a DEW washer that goes on the back side of the hb and someone may have replaced it with the 2 shims because they didn' t have a DEW.The DEW is there to help prevent the hb from spinning on the crank and those shims wont work. The proper DEW washer is about $15. at the dealer.By the looks of your crank snout it appears the hb was spinning on it .

Forgot to mention this is a LS2 2005 Replacing HB with aftermarket PowerBond.
Here’s a couple of pics of shims and HB.
From what I have read the DEW washer can be paper thin which might be what I have.
thoughts?

That's something that someone cobbled together. Some of the after market hb's are not finish machined for the factory DEW(diamond empregnated washer).Try a new DEW from the dealer on the new hb that you have to see if it will fit.The DEW is tissue paper thin and you won't need a shim to replace it but the hb should be pinned if not using one.Buy a pin kit or borrow one.Simple half hour job even if you double pinned it

I replaced my LS2 with a power bond SFI unit, no washers, ARP bolt and ARP or stock it's called a diamond washer and that's what keeps it from spinning on the crank, in my understanding, the 05's had a bad diamond washer hense the replacement, not for wobble. And my LS2 did not have any dew washers. My guess is there is a variance in the length of the crank snout and the shims are there to correct that so thy got the right torque to yield on the assembly line.

The DEW is a 90 degree shouldered 1 piece washer that snaps in place on the back of the hb and has no effect on the torque to yield torque value on the crank bolt.Your factory service manual says if none there install one but can't be done on some that are not machined for one

You don't necessarily need one if you pin the crank to prevent it from spinning. They don't fit my ATI but it is double keyed and double pinned.Lots of the LS2's came from the factory with no DEW.Buy yourself a pinning kit..The dew goes on the back of the hb and is available from GM.Try p/n 12674588 if you want to use it. Go to your dealer and get one. They are included with the hb when you purchase a new one from GM and are also available separately.I have one here somewhere if I can find it to get the correct p/n

part number 12674588 comes up as the balancer washer on gmpartscenter.net and other gm sites that goes with bolt on front of balancer. Don't really want to pin crank. starting to think on my 05 what I thought were shims are really the dew washers

There is no washer that goes with the crank bolt as they are one piece. The sequence of the pictures are deceiving.that part number is the dew washer.Go to the dealer and look at it if you want one and all will become clear to you

I understand that. What I’m saying is there seems to be 2 different types of “DEW” washers. Mine is the thin one and other affix to the back of balancer. I do plan on talking with GM parts dealer. Here’s the examples....
my current washer(s)

And the other style....

Yes that is the correct dew in the bottom picture that is used on most LS engines and will do a much better job of helping prevent hb from spinning on the crank.Any new hb bought from GM for LS2 or LS3 engines will come with that dew.It dosen't really matter if there were ever 2 types. The dew is tissue paper thin. It's not a shim,it's an anti-rotation washer and pinning would be a better solution in combination with using a dew as it would at least prevent inner hub from spinning on crank snout and damaging it.When I do hb's I pin and add dew if it will fit
