Default Crankshaft replacement

OK so back in December I purchased a 2012 C6 with the LS3 76,000 miles. I’ve put 4000 miles on the car and my oil pressure has suddenly dropped to 10 psi at idle and occasionally I get a crankshaft knock on start up for a couple of seconds. at 2000 RPMs I can hear the lifters chatter a little bit, and I can also see flakes of metal in the oil. My question is can you swap out the crankshaft with the engine still on the car? Or does the engine need to be pulled on the C6 to get the crankshaft out? I have not had the car up in the air yet so I am not sure what is removable and accessible. I will be taking it into the shop next Tuesday putting it up on the lift and checking it out.

Forget about just changing the crank. If you had a sudden oil pressure drop, a bearing knock and metal flakes in your oil, you had better pull the entire motor out and go right through it.

You've likely got one or more spun rod bearings and surprisingly the crank will likely only need to be polished when rebuilding the engine (which you will need to do and yes, the whole thing needs to come out).

Your original question isn't entirely invalid though because on two separate occasions I've replaced pistons out of the bottom of the engine while it was still in the car. The first time was a single one that had a cracked ring land and the second time was all eight after it was rebuilt incorrectly with half of the oil rings installed upside down.
