Corvette C6 GS fuel pump problems
I have bought my first Corvette a couple of months ago. A 2010 Grand Sport Convertible with 33.000 miles. In a country with very few American V8, i absolutely love the car :-). However, I have some problems with fuel pump and start up and hope somebody in this forum can help me.
A month ago, I experienced it would not start up. Cranking but no fire. I watched a lot of posts here and started investigating the fuse box. Everything look fine. Tried fuses and relays and other but finally gave up. Frustrated, i got if to the local mechanic. He called me next day. Problem fixed within 5 min. He knocked on the tanks and it fired up. I lived in Denmark and it only run few miles every year. So maybe it just needed to get so get exercised. Last friday, it happened again. Car crank but would not start up. I tried to knock gently on the tanks myself with a hammer. Nothing. Should have had it on a longer trip saterday, but had to leave it a home. Sunday tried troubleshooting again, but no luck. In the evening, tried one last time, and gave the left tank a good wack and the car started. Took a 2 hour trip last night and no problem.
Called the earlier owner today. He told me, he had changed both the pumps last year. Called the earlier owners mechanic today, who told me, he installed 2 new original fuel pumps last year. The car may have driven 1-2.000 miles with them. He does not expect the pump, but maybe the cables. My own mechanic does not believe that story and suspect the pump is hanging.
Can anybody guide me? Should i purchase new fuel pumps again and let my own mechanic change them or can it be something else? I expected eletric issue, but wack under the tank, makes the car run for the second time now.
Greetings from Denmark
Peter
