TPMS - Simple Fix
The tire looked normal and the air pressure measured 30 psi. After thinking about it I put a jack under the left front jacking point and jacked it up to get the weight of the vehicle off the tire/wheel. I then removed the valve stem core letting the air completely escape. I then reversed the procedure and reinflated the tire to 30psi.
Fired it up and the error message was still on. Drove it for about a mile, the error cleared and the monitor indicated 30psi.
This afternoon I drove about 20 miles and the TPMS seems to functioning properly.
New tires (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus Run flats) were installed 2 years ago and the installer used sensor rebuild kits that they assured me was the way to fly as this place specialized in Corvette tire replacement. The rebuild kits included new batteries. The original TPS’s lasted almost 12 years.
This trick obviously won’t work for all TPMS problems but a sensor reset is an easy start.
