I bought my 2012 C6 GS Auto trans in 2013 and it’s basically been trouble free until yesterday. It has 17,000 miles on it and I ’ve done some cosmetic upgrades, new tires, Z06 Spyder wheels, new battery, and changed the oil and other than that it’s bone stock.

It had been sitting in my garage for 6 to 8 weeks and I decided to take it out yesterday afternoon. When I got in the car it seemed like all the systems went crazy at the same time:

Service Anti Lock brakes
Service traction control system
Service Active Handling System
The Parking Brake doesn’t work now and a warning light came on showing it was engaged, but it wasn’t.
The speedometer wasn’t reading right and it bounced around instead of giving a solid reading.
The transmission seemed to jerk a little and the engine didn’t feel normal either.

I disconnected the battery and cleaned the posts, but it didn’t help. Could it be the ground on the frame or engine? I have no idea and I need some advice.

All this happened at the same time after it sat for app 2 months and the last time I drove it everything was fine. This car has never been abused and it’s got me puzzled. I’m not a fan of taking it to a Chevy dealer to have whoever’s handy assigned to work on it so I was hoping someone might have an idea what happened to my car.

Need to keep it on a battery tender if sitting for a while, car draws juice from battery while sitting and systems are very sensitive to low voltage.
If original battery just replace it and get a tender....
it's amazing it had any juice after that long.......

 

I put in a new factory exact Delco battery about 2 years ago and when it’s parked in my garage it’s always on a battery tender 24/7.

The last time I drove it everything was normal and yesterday it all went to hell. I don’t know what happened. I think I got every warning message you can get and even my speedometer needle was bouncing out on the road. It’s never done anything like that before!

I checked the voltage on the battery this morning and it was a steady 12.7 volts. I went outside and checked my SUV which has a new battery (maybe 2 weeks old) and it read 12.6 volts. I’m at a loss unless my battery cables aren’t making a good connection.

 

What codes did you pull?

 

I am 99% sure you have a bad battery. Doesn’t matter if it’s only 2 years old or always on a tender. They go bad and can cause all kinds of weirdness. And you can have it tested, pass the test, yet it still is bad.

Easy thing to do is go get a Duralast Gold or what ever that is the proper one for your car and see if it fixes the problems. If that’s not it you can easily return it.

 

I thought I should replace the battery. Time flies at my age and after thinking about it I’m pretty sure the battery in the car is more than 2 years old. Thanks for the advice and I’ll post on here if that fixes whatever is going on with the car and I hope that’s it!

 

I have a cheap code reader that I’d never used and it didn’t give me any codes when I tried it. I think it’s a bad battery and that’s my next step to try and sort out whatever is going on with the car.

 

Without a load on the battery, the voltage can be deceptive. Turn on the headlights and check the battery voltage. That will give you a better indication of the charge.

 

I bought a new battery and nothing changed with the warning messages: service anti-lock braking system, service traction control system, parking brake light on continuously, service vehicle soon etc.

I’m getting every warning message there is in the car and and now I don’t have a clue since I installed a new battery.

Check your spark plug wires to make sure they are connected properly. I had the same thing happen to me on my car when it was stock, just after I bought it new, and it turned out to be a plug wire which wasn’t fully plugged into the coil. Couldn’t believe how that works on these cars, but it was an easy fix.

 

Any follow up on this OP? I'm surprised the battery didn't resolve the issue. I would try what CI GS suggested. I had some weird electronic things happen on the 03 Tahoe LT that I used to have. The dealer flashed the PC for $70 and all was well after that.

I broke down and took my car to Crews Chevrolet in North Charleston for repairs. It turns out my ABS Control Module had gone bad and it caused all the other warning messages to come on. I had the Serpentine belts (there are 2 which I didn’t know it had more than 1) replaced and I got them to do a leak check and refresh my A/C system while it was in the shop.
I got the car back and it now drives as good or better than the day I bought it. I’m a happy Corvette owner again.
