I have a 2011 GS.Can the square box on the air bridge(passenger side}be removed and if so how do you plug the hole that is open in the air bridge. What does this box do and is it needed.
You're probably referring to the Helmholz resonator. The reason it's there is to control pressure wave harmonics. Without it the engine can suffer performance issues since it's purpose is to reduce these harmonics from upsetting the flow air/fuel in the intake manifold when the valves open and close. The closing of the valve will create a "slamming" effect in the intake. This resonator softens the blow sent back into the intake when the valve suddenly closes. GM saw fit to put it on there (mfrs. don't do anything they don't need to since every part is more cost), so I just leave well enough alone. I have noticed that some engines have them while others don't. I guess GM decides which engine can benefit from it's use.
I did discover a while back that mine had broken loose from where it attaches. I J-B welded it back on, and this got me to researching what it's real purpose is.

Only reason i want to remove it is to clean up the engine compartment and be able to keep a eye on the pullies, harmonic balancer, hoses and water pump.I do agree that GM would not spend money it can keep in there pocket.

So GM removed the air box for the Z06 and there is no problem or need for a tune. Remove it.

This may be true, but if that is all correct then why do the Z06’s not have them? Doesn’t make much sense...
