Default P0506 Code WTF?

Last Saturday at the track the check engine light came on when I started the C6 in the staging lanes for time trial #1. Decided to make an easy pass to see what would happen. Engine was breaking up badly. When I got home I pulled the following code with my el cheepo code reader: "P0505- Idle Control System RPM Lower Than Expected". Seems odd this fault would case such a severe impact on performance. Any thoughts on the situation will be appreciated.

Don't go to the track without a scan tool as a simple code can spoil your day when not being able to clear a simple code.I have had similar issue the odd time with PO507- idle RPM higher than expected. With my cam car does idle higher than stock and the odd time on cold start up it will stay at cold start RPM between 1,100 and 1,200 RPM in park.Once I clear the code it is fine and would think your low RPM code would do the same so that you could complete your day at the track. Was yours ok once you cleared the code at home?

Thanks for the info. I chose to leave the code active so it will be visible when I have my tuner check things out. If he checks things out and all it needs is to have the code cleared, I will never go to the track again without my code reader!

I am surprised this idle RPM code caused such a severe effect on engine performance. There was no message on the DIC like "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". I am wondering if there were other codes my cheepo Chinese code reader failed to pull.
