Reset markers??
This was at a test only shop, so no reason to mess with anything to get a repair job.
I passed with no problems as the car with 100k miles didn't have any trouble codes stored.
The guy did mumble something about resetting the markers? Hard to tell as he was mumbling through a mask.
So, could something have changed to affect the idle? AFAIK, the markers are informational only, they don't change anything.
It does smooth out after a few miles.
As for car at 100K, it's time to replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
Spark plugs need to be removed when the motor is stone cold, and only torque the new OEM plugs back in to 11ftlbs of torque.
On the OEM plug wires, apply dielectric grease to the inside of the boot surfaces. The grease allows the boots to break the pressure seal causes when they are installing on the plugs and coils, so you don't have a build up of hot air expansion in the boots causing them to pop back off.
And yes, replace both the wires and the plugs, with the same OEM units you pulled off. Some after market plugs and wires don't have a high enough resistance, which can cause RFI from the plugs back up to the coils, this RFI makes is way to the ECM, and instead of the ecm holding the alternator at 14.7 volts, holds the alternator at a lower voltage that causes "service charging system" faults.
As for markers, the only thing that you can do is a idle relearn short of tuning software, but does not sound like the problem with the idle too high when the car is started and warming up.
The only difference is after the smog check. I THINK it idles a little rough for a couple of miles. Could be just my imagination.
I will look at the maf sensor
Thank you.
