I'm replacing the radiator in my 13 GS and understood that you don't have to take the AC lines off but my AC line is directly on top of my radiator. Very little flex in that AC line. Any advice is appreciated.
The guy in this video removed his radiator while leaving the condenser in place as part of a cylinder head and cam replacement. He mentions how difficult it was to remove the radiator, and says that it may have been quite a bit simpler just to evacuate the refrigerant and pull the condenser along with the radiator. I don't remember him giving much detail as to how he accomplished removing the radiator without the condenser, but it might be worth while to watch the video to see what you can get from it.
I typically evacuate the ac but that’s if you have access to the machine. If not you can bend the line out of the way but this isn’t the recommended way.
I do plan on doing that but it won't make any difference in this case. That radiator can only move up right now. It sits in two holes so must pull up. Every video I've watched their AC line is off to the right of the radiator not directly above it.
The condensor sits in 4 little notches. You should be able to lift it straight up about an inch to get it out of the notches, then tug it to the side slightly to clear the radiator. This will be difficult to do though, with the front shroud still in place holding the condensor down.
Separate it from the rad. Like the man said it sits in 4 little slotted blocks on the front of the rad once you get it loose you'll be able to move things around and get the rad out
The simple thing to do, is to break off the saddle of the radiator that's holding the condenser from moving up.
I posted up pics a few years ago (I'd guess sometime in 2015-2016) to show what and where to do it. Do a search using my screen name and you'll find it.
I’ve had my radiator out twice once to replace and once for cam swap. It’s best to remove fan(s) shroud. It will give you just enough room to separate from ac condenser without having to discharge system. Here’s a few pics of my 05 and the ac line does run above radiator also.
