C6 Shift Indicator and gears????

C6 Shift Indicator and gears????
Hey guys. I have searched w/o much luck, so if I'm missed something, please point me in the right direction.
I have a new to me '08 C6 A6 and I have noticed that the gear shift indicator is somewhat wrong. It has P (then a blank space) RNDS but when I put it in N, it is actually a forward gear.
I crank the car and pull it out of park, into the blank space and the car goes in reverse. I can then move it into R and that is actually neutral. Then when I pull it back into neutral, the car starts to move forward and the shifter is locked out of going back into neutral, unless I push the button on the shifter. I can then pull it back into D but it it locked out of going into S until I push the button again on the front of the shifter.
There doesn't seem to be any change in the way it drives from the first drive gear and the second drive gear. Its almost like the indicator panel needs to read PNR321 or something like that but it doesn't.
