Default wireless cameras or cut through firewall?

ok I'm all torn down and torn apart and seeing all the pieces that need to come together and figuring out how.

One of the few non-drivetrain upgrades I want to do is upgrading the radio to a double-din multimedia receiver with the single most desired feature being the ability to add a minimum of front and rear parking cameras. Never messed with car stereos so this is going to be yet another rabbit hole, but I'm curious for input on two options for now:

is the better option to have wireless cameras that you somehow wire into the cars electrical system or run wires through the firewall?

reason I'm focusing on this specific issue right now is that picking and swapping receiver can be done after the engine is back in the car, I just want to deal with whatever work will be needed for the camera cables/power now while I'm at this particular stage of the build.

any tips/advise/suggestions are welcome here too, of course.

If you do go through the firewall, there is at least one hole on the passenger side firewall that is already there. I am running nitrous wiring, wideband wiring, two step wiring and a couple of other things through it so it is plenty big enough for a camera wire.

I installed a front camera, and went through the firewall just slightly above the dead pedal, and behind the power brake booster.
Easy to drill a hole through the fiberglass material, run the wires through wire loom, and seal it with duct seal.
I've had it for years, and never any issue with moisture. That duct seal stuff is awesome.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I ran my front camera wire pretty much the same way, no issues.

You can also run wires under the weather stripping where the doors meet the front fenders and hood. Then run the wires under the plastic trim to the dash.

I have a boost gauge wire and a wide band AFR gauge wire ran this way. I did not want to cut any holes in the firewall or fight trying to run the wires through existing holes works great and you cannot see any wiring.

That hole is actually a large wire grommet that the main wires from the engine fuse box runs through to the passenger footwell electrical boxes. That grommet is found behind your battery in the engine compartment. You will have to remove your main battery to get access. If you use this, be careful not to damage any of the exirting wiring going through there.

I like this method. Have used it for parking curb sensor and also for radar detector.
Can run wires to dash area or visor/rear view mirror area.

gotcha, I was looking at that but not sure how the fit goes together, I'll look at it closer once I start tearing into the interior.

Thanks for all the pics and suggestions

Take a coat hanger other piece of stiff wire and poke it slowly through and you will see where it enters the interior. Then you can attach the camera wire to the end still in the engine bay and pull it into the interior.
