Default 2008 differential replacement

Fibers and floaters gave up and spread metal throughout. Ring/pinion and the case survived but diff needs replaced. I probably should replace new but a complete used unit is tempting. Should I upgrade or just replace with OEM since the car is going to be a daily with the typical blast through the gears every now and then.

How many miles on this diff?

How much track duty?

I would put in a low mile pull out OEM, and sell this one for parts.

Solution to your problem.

Hence OEM LSD with clutch packs works fine for say street use, but for road coarse use, your going to burn up the clutch packs in less than 18K isntead. In your case, it was a combo of just hard launches( and bit of wheel spin with bites) that started the problem, and snowballed from there.

So really, if case is still fine, then looking about $1k in parts (including Quaife as well), to rebuild the diff, and would still be cheaper/better, then trying to find a used OEM diff that still has the clutch packs, and back down the same path again.

As for the spider gears, they have seen some heavy launch use to chip like that, and would replace every bearing in the diff while your in there as well. Hence bigger piece of the chiped spider gears did help the spider gears to chip even more, but the small pieces of metal found there way into every bearing, and to do them in as well.

Stock clutch packs and gears work just fine as that's all I ever run in mine and it holds up extremely well despite some pretty severe usage.

IIRQ, Didn't you just snap a torque tube?
Its not that you are not right, and that diff does work well for strip use when you don't abuse the system,
it's just that it does not do well when you spin the tires and get into nasty wheel hoop bite over and over again.

Hence what caused all of this to start with, and what lead to the snow balling failing of other parts.

So if the op is going to just use the car for strip/rolling racing type use, and does have the sense to get out of the throttle when the tires do break traction, OEM LSD system will be fine to reinstall again. On the other hand, High speed road course use where corners use has the discs slipping each corner to wear a lot faster/do not last long for this type of use , would better to with something like the Quaife locker.
Note, if the car is used for just strip work only, and just trailer to the strip, say screw it to a LSD locker, and just go locked spool isntead.

Simply it really boils down to prospective, hence if the op is using the car for High speed road course work where the Quaife unit is going to last a hell of lot longer/work a lot better, or just strip/rolling racing street play where the oem disc type locker works fine; but has the common sense to get out of the throttle if the tires do break loose wildly either way.

P.S. let me guess, and he bought the car used and was only owned by some little old lady that only drive the car on Sundays to church story, so all this damage much be from some factory defect from the start.

I looked online and 19133230 is the number for the diff assembly that houses ring gear and clutches. I don’t know enough about these units to know what parts interchange between other units (auto,manual,z06,zr1,etc.). I’ll need bearings and seals too. Is there a kit available with this stuff to go along with the diff assembly purchase or will they be per piece items which will probably nickel and dime me. I’m already replacing clutch, torque tube bearings/couplers and a 5th/6th shift fork while it’s all out. It sucks but it has to be done.

Which Quaife do I need? I found a QDF24B for a decent price but it states for auto trans only. I don't anything about these but i would think it doesn't matter whether its auto or manual at this point in the driveline. Thoughts? Do these take the same TIMKEN bearings and will the stock intermediate shaft work with this unit? Also, how close is the stack up with the ring gear to the OEM unit. I need to know if I need to buy a master rebuild kit with a bazillion shims or not.
I'm also considering the Wavetrac unit as well but it about impossible to any information about aftermarket replacement differential internals.

Bank that you will need the shim kit to get ride and lash correct with dial indicator and base.

Don't have all the details on your car, to tell you which unit you need.

Another question, are you happy with your gearing? This would be a good opportunity to change it

I'm good with the 3.42. This ratio should be good for a supercharger later on. I have a wavetrac differential on the way.
