Default *camshaft! position sensor stuck!! Ls2

I have an 07 with a Ls2 I have the p0016 code pop up and I’m trying to replace the sensor hoping that’s

it. Now the sensor was easy to find and I got the bracket off but the sensor itself is stuck. I wiggle it back and for and try and pull at the same time with no luck so I tried to drill it out to get the o-ring off but no luck. Any suggestions on what todo next would be so helpful thank you!

By the looks of the picture you're going to have to spin the CPS back to where the bracket is out from behind the water pump -

You will need yo get a small pry tool, perhaps an interior trim tool kit, or a mini pry bar that look similar to one of those so that you can get underneath the bracket

Amazon Amazon

One of the angled pry tools or something similar should allow you to get under it and pry it away from the block and pop it out - the kits can also be had at Harbor Freight Tools

DON NOT CONTINUE TO DRILL IT - YOU COULD END UP SENDING PIECES DOWN INTO THE MOTOR - the CPS is shallow and should come out with a little help -

Thanks,Matt

Is not the crankshaft position sensor on the side of the block, near the starter?
I believe your picture is of the camshaft sensor.
Regardless...
The sensor uses an o-ring to seal it in the bore, and can be difficult to remove when o-ring hardens with age.
You will have to use more force to remove, and will likely destroy the old sensor in the process.

yep, cam sensor... and they swell up some... i had my cover off and had to give it a few taps with a rubber mallet to get it to pop out...

get a tiny screw driver in behind it and give it some gentle prys....

Spray a little bit of penetrating oil and then use pick tools, etc. to pull it out.

you could also very gently run a self tapping screw in to it, and use that to pry it out.... it WILL come out... just a very tight fit...

Cam shaft sensor is on the front of the motor that you are showing, while the crank shaft sensor is on the back of the motor at the starter isntead.

No worries, and as pointed out, get the sensor channel aligned with the bolt channel again (rotate it clockwise so that second is not trapped), the go in with a pick tool to pry the sensor out to start with, There is back flats as you start to get it to walk out that you can go in with something wider, once the expanded O ring starts to give free of it grip on the sensor channel itself.

I have a bad feeling you have an issue with the cam gear or the cam retainer plate, even with the broken bolt the sensor should not have turned like that, if it was me, I would have to at least take a look under the cover, tury to turn it out and remove in one piece. THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY MARKS ON IT, just like the picture above. in the LS2's they had a few with backed out bolts on the cam retainer plate, those bolts hit the cam gear and the gear hits the sensor, that was one of the reasons for the new style cam retainer plate with the counter sunk head torx bolts, at this point you could save yourself trouble.

You need to pull the water pump to really get at this at this stage. I had a similar issue they swell and thus do not come out that easy. Pull water pump and spin the sensor around while pulling it at same time.

It doesn't look like the bolt is busted off in the block to me, by the angle it's just hard to see the threads, but you can see the back of the bolt hole.

His last response was 5 days ago! perhaps it has been removed and he is driving down the road or he has had to remove everything everything in order to remove the cover in order to pop the sensor out

Thanks,Matt

Just an FYI for anyone getting this code... the likelihood that it's actually a faulty CPS or (CKPS) is very iffy, just as probable is in the wiring. It's easy enough to check wire integrity, same with any code that's sensor-related.... can be a very cheap vs expensive component replacement, which if it is in the wiring means that you just spent $200 for nothing... I've learned this over the years & a mistake everyone makes is replacing the component that the DTC references. Noise & vibration... think about it, these are not brand new factory-fresh cars!

Check out ScannerDanner on Youtube or Schrodingers Box for info.... outstanding references.
